I know. I don’t update for months, and when I do, it’s the day before Halloween. I don’t think you can be any more random than that. But today I posted some photos of the boys’ Halloween costumes and I’m getting a ton of inquiries about where I got them, or how I made them. So instead of writing the same thing over and over, I figured I could write it once on here. But I’m sorry that it’s the night before Halloween, as this is really easy to do, so the world could have had a bunch of little Psys and Yellow Suit Guys running around. In case you’re not on Facebook, here’s some photos of my boys:
These came up in random order, but I’m too lazy to go back and switch them around. But obviously there’s more than enough photos for you to get the idea of what they look like (sorry! I just can’t help it – I just love how they turned out!).
So here’s how I did it:
I went on Ebay and looked for white suits. Actually, I called all the consignment stores in my area first, and wouldn’t you know it, none of them had any in stock. After searching around online, I found some shop on Ebay that had them at the cheapest price, and I bought one in each of the boys sizes. These were actually 4 piece suits (jackets, pants, shirts, and white ties). I then bought dye at Walmart to dye them. But when I got home and was about to start the whole process, I actually read the directions and discovered that you can’t dye 100% polyester. Lovely. So I did the only logical thing. I went back to Michael’s and bought Spray Paint.
Yep. You read that right. I bought spray paint. And I sprayed the heck out of those white suits. Oh – and while I was at Walmart, I picked up some black, straight legged sweats for Charlie. They were under $4, which was easily justified as it saved me from buying more dye/spray paint to paint Charlie’s pants black.
The toughest part of this whole thing was finding white shoes. So note to self – it’s IMPOSSIBLE to find toddler sized, white canvas shoes at the end of October. Instead, I found black ones at Walmart. I also found fabric paint and I had in my mind that I could make the ‘yellow shoes’ that the ‘guy in the yellow suit’ wore. Let’s just say, Callahan ended up in his normal tennis shoes. But Charlie’s turned out okay.
The last bit – which I actually think MAKES the entire outfit for Charlie – is the black bias tape I hot glued to the edges of Charlie’s jacket. I LOVE that part. For reals. And then I just made a basic bow tie out of black fabric and it’s attached to a black ribbon, so I just tie it onto Charlie’s neck with a bow. Good times.
So there you go. That’s the boys’ costumes. And while they don’t mind them, they definitely don’t love them like I do. BUT, they are SO in love with Psy’s video its not even funny. Every day they ask to see it, and if I turn it on when they’re not paying attention, as soon as they hear it they drop whatever they’re doing and bust out the dance moves. It’s just so much fun.
And with that, I’m off to finish all the other tasks I’ve pushed off so I could work on the costumes. Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween!
SUPER, SUPER CUTE!!! I love their costumes – they are just TOO cute! My nephew wanted me to dress Colin up as Psy, but I wasn’t creative enough to even attempt it! You are awesome! I hope all is well – so happy to see a post from you.
Video of them dancing…stat!
Your boys are super cute!!
I posted on FB inquiring about the costumes, then saw this update! I am in awe of you, yeah really! I’m so lame this year. So busy, I can’t even think about being creative like that. Well done Rach, well done (arm shaking in the air with a wuh wuh wuh!!) You’ve outdone yourself. Love your creativity with these!
