I’m Thankful: Day 9

Dude. I thought my Day 8 had posted, but apparently it didn’t. But it has now. So anyways …

I’m going to go on record and say that I’m thankful for Scrunchies. If you are a girl who lived through the 90’s, then you SO know about Scrunchies. On Monday night we made the trek across town to get Korean food for dinner. It’s about a 45 minute drive,  but man … it is SO worth it. On the way there I tried to re-adjust my ponytail  … and wouldn’t you know it, my rubber band snapped, broke and I honestly still have no idea where it went.

And here’s the thing … my hair was GROSS. I hadn’t washed it the day before, which  meant I had my hair pulled back in the same ponytail for 2 days. Well … almost 2 days. And any girl who has ever worn their hair in a ponytail for any amount of time, knows that when you take it out you have a big ‘bump’ where the rubber band was. And my hair isn’t super long … like it reaches my shoulders … so the ‘bump’ was SUPER noticeable and there was NO way for me to hide it. Top it off with my bangs awkwardly pinned back with bobbi-pins and I was rockin’ one sweet hairdo.

So today I bought a bunch of rubber bands and a set of mini scrunchies. I will be storing some in the car, in my diaper bag, and also in my purse. That way I will never have to worry about this scenario happening again.  It’s not like I get all dolled up on a daily basis, but I guess I can be kind of vain like that … and let’s be honest, scrunchies were kinda the coolest hair accessory EVER back in the day … right?! So I say it’s time for a come back. Who’s with me?!

LOL!! I’m there! My hair is thick. Just got it whacked off recently. So mine’s the same length, i.e. totally have the bump too. I sleep with my hair pulled back in a ponytail, hate my hair in my face when I’m sleeping. So I have one sweet bed head when I wake up, plus the bump! I totally get that! and love my scrunchies!!! :)

Ooohhhh, not sure I can get behind a Scrunchies resurgence. Though maybe I’m just too scarred by the fact that I associate Scrunchies with my hair being permed. With sky high, teased to high heaven, hair-sprayed bangs…yeah, not my best look.

I happen to think you are fabulous…..but noooo, move away from the scrunchies. I have yet to see a cool picture of anyone rockin the scrunchie look. In fairness, Im also with Ramsey – scarred by permed hair and a learners guide to make up during the scrunchie era;)

Scrunchies always make me think of that Sex In the City episode….you know, where Carrie and Berger get in a big fight over him referencing a girl wearing a scrunchie in his book, and Carrie says a girl in NY City would never wear a scrunchie. lol! If you haven’t seen it, you need to Google it!

I’m Thankful: Day 8

Today I’m thankful for modern conveniences … but more specifically: printers. Filling out our Acceptance Paperwork is super stressful for me. I make the STUPIDEST mistakes (like not being able to write my address correctly … no joke) and I find myself going back to my computer to print up another copy of whatever form it is I’m trying to fill out … again.

I think back to when my Parents adopted me. And I know I saw some paperwork that was typed out  … with like a real typewriter. And I can’t imagine how not only time consuming that must have been, but frustrating as well!

Thankfully, I got everything done, filled out, stapled and ready to go. And by this time tomorrow, our Acceptance should be well on it’s way to our Agency.

Love the convenience of printers, but hate when it says, “Low Ink, replace cartridge”! My mom had a typewriter for years. I remember as a little girl playing on it and pretending I was “typing” a letter. Thought I was so big! lol Great memory! :)

I’m Thankful: Day 7

Tonight I’m thankful for Television. Why? Because I’m totally and completely in love with the show Psych. Have you ever seen it? It’s on the USA channel and I had seen previews for it and thought it looked really lame. Then a few months ago Bob decided to watch the first season on Netflix. He told me that he thought I’d like it, but I totally put it off. One night, when we had nothing else to watch, I relented, and now it’s been a favorite of mine ever since. It’s funny, clean, and it’s actually a refreshing show considering everything seems to be a Realty Show these days.

So I know it sounds like a really lame thing to be thankful for, but it’s a relaxing activity that Bob and enjoy watching together.

*** man … is it just me or is this 30 Days of Thankfulness kinda boring? I’ve been holed up in the house with a sick kiddo, and rainy weather … but hopefully this week we can get out and about and get some photos to brighten this thing up! ***

I appreciate you taking to time to contribute That’s very helpful.

I’m Thankful: Day 6

Today I’m thankful for my bed. I know that sounds super silly – but I’m SO tired right now, and I REALLY do love my bed. Or maybe it’s just that I’m tired and I love to sleep.

Regardless, I’m REALLY looking forward to crawling into my comfy cozy bed and falling asleep. It’s raining out … so I think it just makes it all the more delightful.

I heart my bed. Favorite place in the world!

Leah Lemmons - November 6, 2011 - 9:19 pm

I know just how you feel! Love my bed too! Just wish I could stay in it longer most days. :-/

I’m Thankful: Day 5

Today I’m thankful for medicine. Yesterday Charlie woke up from his nap and was burning up. High fever, and just completely out of it. So I started the Tylenol and Motrin trade off and after a few hours he started feeling a bit better. This morning he woke up feeling fine, but then after a couple of hours the fever came back.

I absolutely hate it when my  kids are sick. I hate that you can see it in their eyes, they become fatigued, and just have the saddest most pathetic looks on their sweet faces. So the fact that I can give them medicine that helps them feel better relatively quickly is huge. I mean honestly, I have no idea how parents dealt with sickness ‘back in the day’. I think it would be so scary to watch your children’s temperature rise, and have no idea how to make it stop. Even with ‘modern medicine’ I still get totally stressed out.

But thankfully I have two sleeping kiddos upstairs right now … both were feeling good when they went to sleep … so hopefully they’ll wake up that way as well.

Jenny - November 5, 2011 - 12:47 am

I can totally relate. The feeling of helplessness as a parent is awful, and even more magnified when your kids haven’t learned to talk yet. I’m glad your kiddos are safely tucked in their beds, and hope Charlie feels better tomorrow.
By the way, I took up your Thankfulness challenge, and am patting myself on the back for getting all caught up. :)

Leah Lemmons - November 5, 2011 - 9:38 pm

The most helpless feeling in the world when your kiddos are sick! Ugg, another thing I despise! I think our stressers are one in the same! Hope C is feeling much better tomorrow and that fever is gone for good. Aiden had a fever a couple of weeks ago, lasted 4-5 days. Nothing else came of it besides breathing problems, weird how they react sometimes. Thankful for meds? Yes mam! :)
